Short Vac in Mmankgodi

During the mid-semester break (called “Short Vac”), we took eighteen students to a village for three (very full) days of ministry & training. The experience was a lot like primitive camping, as we slept on a concrete floor, bathed in buckets, carried our own water & firewood, and cooked over a fire. In spite of a few hiccups, we saw God move in Mmankgodi!

Much of day one focused on g
athering our supplies and taveling to the village. I was exhausted by the time we arrived! Our ministry focus that day was an assembly for Form 3 (10th grade) students. The school invited our students to share the secrets to their success at university, and we had an opportunity to share the Gospel. Ninety percent of the students stood as Taffy shared, indicating decisions to follow Jesus.

Day two started at sunrise and brought lots of training on evangelism & follow-up – for our students and for locals who joined us. Older students led all of the sessions. Then we sent them out to practice what they had just learned. The group paired up and went door to door to talk to people about their spiritual lives. Eleven more people committed their lives to Jesus!
We showed the Jesus Film on a soccer field that night, and fifty more people prayed to receive Christ after seeing the Gospel of Luke in Setswana! The newly-trained locals are following up with them.

On day three, up at sunrise again, I got to lead the devotional. It’s a wonder my brain worked so early! After more training, we led an afterschool program for local orphans, leading them in worship, giving them snacks, and delivering Bibles from friends in the U.S.

Praise and Prayer

* Mmankgodi was completely exhausting, but we danced and laughed a lot and lots of people came to Christ. Pray for the follow up of the new believers!

* We finally submitted our immigration paperwork on Monday. Please pray that we would not only be approved for residency and work permits but that the approval would come before our visas expire mid-November!

* Pray for the team as we come out of the honeymoon phase, where everything was rosy, and we start to experience more cultural challenges and frustrations.
