I began my role as Associate National Director of Global Missions by debriefing the Botswana Summer Mission team last August. I finished my role with one last debriefing for Botswana Summer Mission this month.
I picked up the team of seventeen at the airport Saturday. After more than 24 hours of travel with multiple flights and layovers, they were exhausted but still in good spirits. We made sure they got some Starbucks (a luxury that has not made its way to Botswana yet) and a shower (also sometimes a luxury in Botswana) before we jumped into the content.
Over the course of two very full days, I got to hear stories of how God worked in and through these students as they stepped out in faith to make Him known wherever they went. We also spent time preparing them for the transition back to the U.S. and to life after Summer Mission.
This summer’s leadership team of four were all on last year’s team. They stepped into this summer much more prepared for the unique challenges of ministry and communication in Botswana, and their existing relationships eased the team into ministry smoothly.
During their five weeks in-country, the team joined BotsCru staff and students in doing village ministry, serving with local churches, showing the Jesus Film, speaking at junior (high) schools, and launching new movements on university campuses. The students shared stories of how the Lord changed them through their experiences and interactions, and they told me that 163 people from all walks of life placed their faith in Jesus!
It was a great end to my time with Global Missions in the Mid-Atlantic. I cried as I said goodbye, but I’m excited and ready for the next step!
